Episode One: The Saga begins.
It began with the forging of the great ring. Three were given to the Elves, Immortal...and....okay. It's not that epic.
A long time ago in a galaxy far ...far....far. Okay well.. South Carolina actually. I thought it sounded good.
All right, but seriously. This story, like any story worth telling, is about a girl. That girl. The girl next door; Mary-Jane Watson...
Okay. Enough. Seriously though it is sort of about a girl. Sarah. That's as good a place as any to start.
2000. Justin's senior year in high school. Matt and Danny are freshman, and have already forged a friendship in middle school once Danny stopped beating Matt up long enough to learn that they both loved Star Wars. The two had become friends, but Justin was still a stranger.
Matt had somehow secured a position in the Advanced Drama Class, a class normally reserved for Juniors and Seniors (bribery is suspected). The First day that Matt saw Justin sitting in a chair surrounded by beautiful women laughing uproariously at his witty banter, Matt thought to himself that it would be a good idea to make friends with this gentle goofy giant.
So Matt asked the question that he asked everyone he had just met. "Hi, I'm Matt. Do you like Star Wars?" Justin just looked right at Matt like a cow looks at an oncoming train and he said "No. I hate it. Never talk to me again."
Frightened that he had enraged the ogre-sized beast of a high schooler, Matt cowered away. Then the silence was broken by te deep hearty laugh of an amused Justin. "Sorry" he said "Just kidding. I love Star Wars." And so it began...
Now there was also someone else Matt met that day. She was an elusive beauty that captured his heart in her eyes was the sun, the moon, and the stars. At that moment he knew he had to have her. But she wasn't interested so he went out with Sarah instead.
Sarah was a freshman as well and she like Matt (something he wasn't and still isn't used to) So he did what any lonely 9th grader would do, got a friend to ask her out for him.
Matt and Sarah went out for a 3 month period. During that time they never hugged, kissed, talked on the phone, or went out anywhere. But they had enough fights to make the Osbournes out to be the Brady's, and they finally broke up.
During his freshman year Danny dated so many girl he needed a waiting list, but he had a free week so Sarah filled the slot, but he had to let her go due to cutbacks, and deadlines.
Justin had been a guiding light during this time to Sarah. The sage-like behemoth gaurded her like an enraged wild bear agains the dangers of the world., but he was also a gian teddy bear; a place she could find comfort. So it was only logical that the two would start dating. So they dated for about 6 months (I know what you're thinking; A freshman dating a senior? But we assure you Justin is a sick, sick freak.) But alas college came and Justin packed his bags for Winthrop out of Matt and Danny's lives forever...or so he thought.
Not only had Matt had a lot of fun with Justin in Drama and a 2 hour study hall, the two had also developed a relationship where Matt would call Justin up and Justin would impart advice to the troubled young teen. This continued throughout Justin's Freshman and Sophomore year in college. Matt would call Justin up on the weekends that he was home and they would talk about girls, movies, comics, and well...poppy punk from the heart.
Justin's main love was music. Matt's only real musical influences were "Weird Al" and John Williams. Justin introduced him to the world of poppy punk. Starting with Blink 182. Matt was hooked, after that he became influenced mainly by Green Day, and Weezer, and a trip to a Five Iron Frenzy concert Matt realized that Christian music didn't have to stink.
Justin was stuck, he and his friend Greg had been planning on starting a band since 10th grade, but they had one problem: No drummer. They had many different people say that they would but all had fallen through. In a passing comment made to Matt when he was a sophomore Matt decided that he would learn how to play the drums, he told Justin this, and Justin said "Okay" expecting this to be another unfulfilled promise like many before that.
But when Justin came home Matt had began lessons much to Justin's surprise. The lyrics were written, the members were there. The work could begin.
Matt had only one request; That his best friend Danny, who was becoming quite good with a guitar, could be in the band. Justin agreed but warned "If he pisses me off, I'll crack his skull open" Everyone agreed to this and when Justin came home the following summer the Saga began...
Greg, Matt, Justin, Danny. Undecided. The work began. Writing songs was an ardous task for the group, but the proof was in the pudding. After working their bums off the band had 10 songs, and with a few covers threw their friends a concert. Only one thing was missing before the show. The Undecided was already a christian punk-esque band, the name was less than perfect, but all of a sudden it came to Matt. Like the Lord Almighty had passed it down from above to Matt the epiphany came. You see Greg was currently dating Sarah(what is with us guys?) so the name came; SARAH'S X (and her current)
The show was a success, but soon after complications set in. Greg was unable to be at a lot of the practices and his commitment was questioned. The tensions were running high, and when Greg failed to make it to the Band's second show it all came crashing down. The band all agreed that Greg needed to go, but it would be a long long time before the band would be together again.
Part Two: Sarah's X: REBORN!
Justin went back to college, and Matt and Danny's senior year of High School had begun. The band found themselves lost in teh trap of a long distance relationship, unable to get their acts together as the leaves outside died under the cold winter's breath, so did the hopes of Sarah's X ever reforming. Matt talked of quitting and all seemed lost, but there is always hope, and when the summer came around The Empire struck back.
Matt, Danny and Justin decided to try...wait no Do or do not there is no try. Matt, Danny, and Justin decided to make it work again, and they did. After a summer of week long early morning practices the band was able to compile 13 new songs, and along with 5 old songs from the summer before. They got their act together, and recorded their debut album; Movies, comics, and Poppy Punk from the heart. They threw their second annual concert for their friends and then went on to play Greer First Baptist's coveted 5th Quarter show.
Now the band is strong as ever. With their eyes set on the future and their butts off the couch, they have concerts lined up and an impending CD release expected this Christmas. Nerds everywhere can now rejoice in these geeky friends. They are real. Real losers at that. So look out world you are about to get a nerd to your mother, no holds barred, in your face look at Sarah's X. This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end, but perhaps it is the end of the beginning.
May the Dorks be with you...always,
Sarah's X.
